Café Gratitude is a now open on Rose avenue here in Venice. This is the 3rd Café Gratitude to open by founder Matthew and Terces Engelhart. The flagship is up in Northern California and a second which opened a little over a year ago in Hollywood. The food is 100% organic and vegan, both raw and cooked brought to you by their very own farm in Vacaville, CA.
“Our food and people are a celebration of our aliveness. We select the finest organic ingredients to honor the earth and ourselves, as we are one and the same. We support local farmers, sustainable agriculture and environmentally friendly products. Our food is prepared with love. We invite you to step inside and enjoy being someone that chooses: loving your life, adoring yourself, accepting the world, being generous and grateful every day, and experiencing being provided for.”
The menu has an assortment of foods and drinks including breakfast and starters, as well as coffee, tea, and beer and wines. Everything is pretty reasonably priced for an organic, vegan restaurant; which normally runs a little higher in price. The starters are around 7, with entrees around 13. There is a wide selection of juices, and cleanses as well as dessert. As if the name, vibe and cuisine didn’t have enough personality, the dishes themselves have titles such as I AM LOCAL, I AM DELICIOUS, or I AM VIBRANT. There is even a dish called I AM EXTROARDINARY. (A BLT with sauteed maple coconut bacon, romaine lettuce, sliced tomato and avocado. Served with spicy chipotle aioli on an organic wheat bun for 11.5)
Here at WELO we were first introduced to Café Gratitude by one of it’s strongest and earliest supporters who worked with them in the bay area, Conor Gafney; bass player for the talented and emerging Makepeace Brothers, local favorites. We ran a piece on his bottle company Spoken Glass earlier this year which embraces the same philosophy as Café Gratitude. Everything is made from hand, the Earth and us are one, and everything is created with Love.
We can’t wait to try it. Let us know what you’re favorites are!
