Well it seems that the formerly-humble Rose Avenue is nothing if not completely a-buzz recently. From the recent opening of Moon Juice to the announcement of Café Gratitude (among other new establishments) opening up in the bottom of the new 5th and Rose complex, it seems as though Rose may be quickly becoming the new Abbot Kinney (or at least Abbot Kinney Redux).
Eater LA is reporting that recently departed chef of Santa Monica’s Salute Wine Bar, Ari Taymore, will be taking over the kitchen of none other than local favorite Flake. Beginning on February 16th, the pop-up restaurant “Alma” will take residence in the tiny café, serving dinner Wednesday through Saturday. The spot will be BYOB and provide the option of ordering three courses for $35 or five courses for $55. According to Eater, the menu will change weekly but will look something like this:
Snack: Pickled vegetables, carraway creme fraiche
1st: Carmelized Sunchoke soup, egg yolk, amaranth, date and chicory
2nd: Beef carpaccio, marinated carrots, kaffir lime, lemongrass and coconut
3rd: Brassicas, semolina, saffron, meyer lemon and carmelized shallot
4th: Chicken, cabbage, parsnip, barley and malt
5th: Meyer Lemon Pudding, lemon verbena, graham cracker
