John Hughes (February 18, 1950 – August 6, 2009) was an American film director, producer and writer. He created many of the most influential and inspiring films, as well as some of the most succesfull, throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including National Lampoon’s Vacation, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Weird Science, The Breakfast Club, Some Kind of Wonderful,Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink; Planes, Trains and Automobiles; Home Alone, and its sequels, Home Alone 2 and Home Alone 3.
To me John Hughes spoke to, and to a greater extent, became the voice of generation X, and remains highly influential to today’s filmmakers. His comedy and sentimentality ring true even today when watching his films. They are timeless. He died of a heart attack in 2009 at the young age of 59. This is one exhibit I will def check out.
