WeLo Bites & Reviews: Flake

I went to Flake (513 Rose Ave) planning on having a bowl of cereal (that’s their hook… they have an extensive cereal menu), but I was distracted by the breakfast sandwiches. And it’s a breakfast sandwich that ended up on my plate. My pick? Reggie’s Veggie Club (veggie sausage, egg, cheddar, lettuce, tomato and secret sauce). It was a notch above good. Not quite “awesome”, but close. Surprisingly, the lettuce and tomato on the sandwich weren’t overkill (I like my breakfasts on the simple side), and the special sauce was pretty special.

When it comes to the cereal, they play the nostalgia card pretty well (look for Froot Loops, Lucky Charms and Corn Flakes), but they don’t branch into some of my newer favorites (Trader Joe’s cluster collection of cereals and Raisin Bran Crunch). But if you’re feeling a little bored, check out the list of toppings. They’ve got fruit and nuts, of course (bananas, almonds, blueberries, walnuts, etc). But they’ve got some edgier options like gummy bears, nutella and sweet caramel sauce. Curious? I am. I’ll try to stick to cereal on my next trip. But it’s going to be tough. Something called “The Veggie Rad!” is calling my name.
