Bad economy sparks “aggressive” competition among Venice vendors

Fist fights. A table kicked across the boardwalk. Vendors along Venice beach are getting surly due to “a stubbornly sour economy heightening competition.”  (AP)  This year, vendor applications have doubled, performer apps are up 80 percent and the cops are beefing up their presence to “patrol the summer pandemonium.”

By the way, the person that kicked the table?  It was a woman who sells Buddhas and incense.  That’s so unenlightened, so un-Venice.
